Open Access policy:

The journal is committed to information sharing and transparency. Our policies help authors achieve a high level of openness with their research and support them to improve the quality of the work they do. We have adopted an Open Access policy that enables the unrestricted access and reuse of all peer-reviewed published research. Our Open Access policy contains the following elements:

  1. Publications are discoverable and accessible online. Publications will be deposited in a specified repository(s) with proper tagging of metadata.
  2. The publication will be On “Open Access” terms. Licensing policy Student journals publish under the Attribution-Noncommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 international (CCBY-NC-ND 4.0) license which allows you to Share, Copy, and redistribute the materials in any medium or format. The licensor cannot revoke these freedoms as long as you follow the license terms; 1. Attribution: You must give appropriate credit, provide a link to the license, and indicate if changes were made. You may do so in any reasonable manner, but not in any way that suggests the licensor endorses you or your use. 2. Non-commercial: You may not use the material for commercial purposes. Commercial use is one primarily intended for commercial advantage or monetary compensation.
  3. No Derivatives: if you remix, transform, or build upon the material, you may not distribute the modified material.
  4. No additional restrictions: You may not apply legal terms or technological measures that legally restrict others from doing anything the license permits.

Preservation and Archiving policy:

The journal uses the CLOCKSS and LOCKSS systems allowing libraries to collect, preserve, and provide our readers with access to material published on our Website. Our main goal is digital preservation.

Repository Policy:

The journal allows authors the use the published version of an article for self-archiving on either the author's website or archiving in a University repository. This can be done as soon as after publication without any embargo period. The published source must be acknowledged and a link to the journal home page or articles' DOI must be set.

Journal Charges:

Being an open-access journal, we do not charge fees to access content published by the journal. This is so because we believe that to promote research freedom among African Students, Publications should not be influenced by the author's ability to pay. The journal can facilitate its editorial process through donations, and the manuscript handling fee of 250,000UgX.

Plagiarism and Similarity Policy

SJC Publishers Company Ltd is committed to maintaining the highest standards of academic integrity, originality, and ethical publishing.

All manuscripts submitted for publication are subjected to plagiarism and similarity screening using recognized plagiarism-detection software before acceptance and publication.

Acceptable Similarity Threshold

  • Manuscripts must have an overall similarity index of 10% or below to be considered for publication.
  • Any manuscript with a similarity index exceeding 10% may be returned to the author for revision, clarification, or may be rejected depending on the nature and extent of the overlap.

Acceptable Plagiarism Threshold

  • SJC Publishers Company Ltd permits a maximum plagiarism level of 5%.
  • Any instance of plagiarism exceeding 5%, including unattributed copying, improper paraphrasing, or unauthorized use of another author's work, will be considered a breach of publication ethics and may result in rejection of the manuscript.

Exclusions from Similarity Assessment

The following may be excluded from similarity calculations where appropriate:

  • References and bibliographies.
  • Standard methodological descriptions.
  • Common scientific or technical phrases.
  • Properly quoted and cited material.
  • Institutional names and standard legal statements.

Author Responsibility

Authors are solely responsible for ensuring that submitted work is original and properly cites all sources. Submission of a manuscript to SJC Publishers Company Ltd constitutes a declaration that:

  1. The work is original.
  2. It has not been plagiarized from any source.
  3. All borrowed material has been appropriately acknowledged.
  4. The manuscript complies with the plagiarism and similarity limits established by SJC Publishers Company Ltd.

Editorial Action

Where plagiarism, duplicate publication, data fabrication, or other forms of publication misconduct are identified before or after publication, SJC Publishers Company Ltd reserves the right to:

  • Reject the manuscript.
  • Request corrections or revisions.
  • Retract published material.
  • Notify the author's institution, sponsor, or relevant authorities where necessary.
  • Impose restrictions on future submissions.
